History

  • The Pinney House was built between 1776-1778 by Eleazer Pinney and his wife, Eunice


  • Eleazer fought in the Revolutionary War


  • He was the first First Selectman


  • Eleazer was instrumental in incorporating Ellington as a town


  • William Pinney, Eleazer’s great-grandson, also served as First Selectman for the town and in the state’s General Assembly.


  • Nellie McKnight and the Bicentennial Commission designated the Pinney House as a Historic Landmark

In 1786, Ellington separates from East ​Windsor. Eleazer is voted First First ​Selectman of Ellington.

America wins the Revolution, solidifying ​freedom from Britain.

The construction of the Pinney House is ​complete, and it becomes an essential ​stop for the militia.

After a life dedicated to the citizens of Ellington Eleazer Pinney dies at the age of 83

250th Anniversary of USA

Eleazer’s Great Grandson, William was ​also First Selectman, and also served in ​Connecticuts General Assembly. He ​resided in the Pinney House.

When land housing Pinney House was ​bought by a developer, the developer ​leased the building to the town for ​historic preservation.

Friends of the Pinney House is ​established as a 501(c)(3)

With this significant milestone in US ​history, Friends of the Pinney House is ​hoping to have restoration underway.

Our goal is to have preservation well on its way by July 4, 2026, when our nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity for the Town of Ellington to:
